SJR Theatre

The SJR Theatre is at the heart of the St John Rigby College campus. The theatre was recently refurbished and given a new lease of life with new digital equipment including lighting and sound.

The SJR Theatre is a black box style theatre with a retractable tiered seating which has 96 seats. The capacity of the theatre for an audience is 120. The theatre houses the majority of the public performances and is also used by various visiting performers including the Greater Manchester Police Band.

The SJR Theatre has a 'back room' which usually holds the SJR Concert Band for the College musical productions and a live video link is used to show the conductor on the televisions in the gallery.

The gallery holds the lighting and sound desks along with two televisions. This is also a storage area for the myriad of sets, props and costumes that we have accumulated over the years. Josh Duffy holds an electronic record of what is kept within the storage areas of the theatre. We also have a baby grand piano, drum kit and sound equipment in the SJR Theatre ready for music performances. Most recently, we have invested in a modular stage which can be used in a variety of ways to give even more flexibility. This modular stage is also used for our outdoor performances such as RigFest.
